Entry-Level resume example
By the Resumade team · About our content
An entry-level resume must clear ATS keyword filters and then prove to a hiring manager that real work — not just coursework — produced measurable results. This example does both by leading with internship impact and quantified wins.

What makes this resume work
- Every bullet opens with a strong action verb and closes with a specific number — percentages, dollar figures, or time saved — so hiring managers can gauge scope instantly without reading between the lines.
- The skills section uses the exact tool names recruiters type into ATS searches (e.g., 'Google Analytics 4' not 'web analytics'), and groups hard technical skills rather than mixing in soft traits.
- Three distinct roles — analytics intern, content intern, and research assistant — show breadth across data, creative, and academic contexts without padding the resume past one page.
- The education note surfaces GPA, Dean's List, and a leadership role (AMA VP) in a single line, giving academic credibility without crowding the experience section that does the heavy lifting.
Keywords that help you pass the ATS
Work the ones that fit your experience into your resume, naturally, not stuffed.
How to write an Entry-Level resume
Choose the right format for an Entry-Level resume
Use a reverse-chronological format even if your work history is thin. Recruiters and applicant tracking systems (ATS) both expect this layout, and deviating from it raises flags before a human ever reads your resume.
Keep the document to one page. Recruiters spend about seven seconds on an initial scan (Ladders eye-tracking study, 2018), so a dense two-page resume from a candidate with under two years of experience reads as poor judgment, not thoroughness. Use 0.75–1-inch margins, a 10–12pt font such as Calibri or Georgia, and clear section headers with consistent spacing.
- One page only — no exceptions at the entry level
- Reverse-chronological order for every section
- Save as a PDF unless the job posting explicitly requests a .docx file
- File name format: FirstName-LastName-Resume.pdf
- Avoid tables, text boxes, and columns — they break most ATS parsers
Write a professional summary that gets you past the first screen
Your summary sits at the top and does one job: tell a recruiter in two to three sentences what you bring, what you are targeting, and why you are ready now. Skip the objective statement ('I am seeking a position where I can grow…') — it wastes space and focuses on what you want rather than what you offer.
Pull the job title and one or two keywords directly from the posting. Here is a working example: "Detail-oriented business administration graduate with hands-on experience in QuickBooks, data entry, and customer account management gained through a 500-hour internship at a regional logistics firm. Proven ability to reduce invoice processing errors and support cross-functional teams in fast-paced environments. Pursuing an operations coordinator role where strong organizational skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft 365 can contribute immediately."
Write work-experience bullets that show impact, not just duties
Even internships, part-time jobs, campus roles, and volunteer work belong in this section if they demonstrate relevant skills. Lead every bullet with a strong action verb and follow it with a result or a scope — quantity, percentage, dollar amount, time saved, or volume handled. Avoid phrases like 'responsible for' or 'helped with.'
If you genuinely have no numbers, estimate conservatively and note the context. Two examples of strong entry-level bullets are below.
- Processed and reconciled 150+ vendor invoices per month in QuickBooks Online, reducing late-payment flags by 22% over one quarter.
- Responded to an average of 40 customer inquiries daily via Zendesk, maintaining a 4.8/5 satisfaction rating across a 10-week internship.
Skills and certifications recruiters and ATS systems look for
Entry-level job postings in most fields list both hard tools and soft competencies, and ATS filters keyword-match against them. Build a dedicated Skills section and mirror the exact terminology from the posting — 'Microsoft Excel' not just 'spreadsheets,' 'Google Analytics' not just 'web analytics tools.'
Certifications carry real weight when your work history is short. Even free or low-cost credentials signal initiative and verify baseline knowledge. List the full certification name, the issuing body, and the year earned.
- Google Analytics 4 (GA4) Certification — Google
- CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+) — for tech-adjacent roles
- HubSpot Content Marketing Certification — for marketing roles
- Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) — Excel or Word
- OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Card — for operations or manufacturing roles
Education, licenses, and extras that round out the resume
Place your education section below work experience unless you graduated within the last 12 months and have very little work history — in that case, move it above. List your degree, major, institution, and graduation year. Include your GPA only if it is 3.5 or higher. Add relevant coursework, academic projects, or a capstone only if they directly support the role you are applying for.
A brief Additional section at the bottom can include language proficiency (use the ILR or CEFR scale — not just 'conversational Spanish'), relevant extracurriculars such as student chapter leadership, or a GitHub or portfolio URL. Keep it to three lines or fewer. Hobbies and references available upon request are both outdated and should be omitted.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using a generic objective statement instead of a targeted summary wastes the most-read real estate on your resume and signals you sent the same document to every employer.
- Listing skills like 'Microsoft Office' without specifying the tools (Excel pivot tables, PowerPoint deck design) gives ATS nothing concrete to match and tells recruiters nothing about your actual proficiency.
- Omitting internship, volunteer, or campus work because it feels informal leaves your experience section empty when those roles often contain your strongest relevant examples.
- Submitting a resume with inconsistent formatting — mixed tenses, varying bullet styles, or misaligned dates — signals carelessness to a hiring manager reviewing dozens of applications in one sitting.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I include a GPA on an entry-level resume?
- Include your GPA only if it is 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. If it is lower, leave it off entirely — omitting it raises no flags, but a below-average GPA can count against you before a conversation happens. Once you have six months of relevant work experience, drop the GPA regardless of the number.
- How do I write an entry-level resume with no work experience at all?
- Lead with your education section and expand it to include relevant coursework, academic projects, or a capstone with measurable outcomes. Then add internships, volunteer roles, campus organization leadership, or freelance work under an Experience section — these all count. Supplement with a strong certifications section to show you have taken initiative outside the classroom.
- How long should an entry-level resume be?
- One page. Hiring managers at the entry level interpret a two-page resume as an inability to prioritize, not as evidence of depth. If you are struggling to fill one page, expand your bullet points with context and results rather than adding a second page with padding.
