Executive Resume Templates

An executive resume template signals seniority: a commanding name header, room for a leadership summary, and a restrained, expensive-looking palette. These give a director, VP or C-suite record the space and gravity it needs without a single distracting flourish.

Best for: Directors, VPs, heads of function and C-suite candidates presenting a leadership track record.

Who an executive resume suits

Executive templates are for directors, vice presidents, general managers, C-suite and board candidates, and senior consultants pitching for leadership roles. They also work for interim executives and non-executive directors who need to present a portfolio of appointments.

How to lay out an executive resume

Open with an executive profile of three to five lines that states your remit and signature outcomes, followed by a short band of core competencies. Start each role with a one-line scope statement (budget, headcount, geography, P&L) before the achievement bullets. Two pages is normal at this level: make page one strong enough to stand alone, and put board roles, advisory work and education on page two.

What to emphasise

  • Scope: P&L size, headcount, number of markets or sites.
  • Strategic outcomes such as turnarounds, growth, exits, integrations and transformation programmes, with figures.
  • Board, advisory and non-executive roles, in a section of their own.
  • Recognisable names (employers, investors, partners or clients) that signal the level you operate at.

Common mistakes

  • Detailing every role since your first job. Summarise anything older than about 15 years in a single line.
  • Writing in the language of tasks (managed, oversaw) rather than outcomes (grew, delivered, turned around).
  • A generic profile that could describe any executive in any industry.
