Nursing Resume Templates

A nursing resume template puts licensure and certifications where a nurse manager looks first, then lists clinical experience by unit and patient population. These keep everything in one column with clear headings — the layout hospital applicant tracking systems parse most reliably.

Best for: RNs, LPNs, nurse practitioners, CNAs and allied health professionals.

Who a nursing resume suits

These templates suit registered nurses, LPNs and LVNs, nurse practitioners, CNAs and allied health staff such as medical assistants, therapists and technicians, whether you are a new graduate or an experienced specialist changing unit or employer.

How to lay out a nursing resume

Lead with your licence (type, state or registration body, and expiry) and certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS or specialty credentials. Then list clinical experience by employer and unit, with the setting, patient population and typical ratio in the first line of each role. Keep the bullets on patient outcomes, safety, documentation and teamwork. New graduates should add clinical rotations with their hours and units.

What to emphasise

  • Licensure and certifications, with expiry dates.
  • Unit type, bed count, patient ratio and the EHR systems you use, such as Epic or Cerner.
  • Quality and safety results: fewer falls, better audit scores, patient satisfaction.
  • Specialties and procedures you are competent in, such as telemetry, wound care or IV insertion.

Common mistakes

  • Burying the licence at the bottom of page two.
  • Generic duties (“Administered medications”) with no setting or scale.
  • Including patient details or anything else that could breach confidentiality.
  • Leaving out float, charge or preceptor roles, which show trust and leadership.
